Parent Assignment - Career Day

posted by Nancy Draney

You can make a big impact with minimal effort.  The Parent Assignment is optional.  If you do choose to participate, the best part is that you don't have to take time off of work to visit our classroom.

You can choose Option One - take part in being interviewed by your child which your child will present to the class or Option Two - create a short video and email it to ndraney@stleosschool.net.

Our 3rd grade students will love hearing all about their parents occupations on Career Day.

Either option is due by Monday, January 29th.

Thank you in advance!

Tops and Bottoms

We saw for ourselves today what the Hare and the Bear in the story meant by Tops and Bottoms of vegetables.   As we read this "trickster tale" we are learning all about the theme or life lesson of the story.

Sammy the Elf

Yes, our Elf, Sammy, arrived this week after much anticipation! It was after a lot of commotion and the whole school looking for him and writing to their own elves.  A special thank you to Norbert, KA's elf for making a special trip to look for him.  Luckily, Sammy made his way to our classroom special delivery. Now,  he is up to the usual elf antics and reporting back to the North Pole.  Only a few more days....

Elves, Grinch Kabobs and Conferences

posted Dec 10, 2017, 6:03 PM by Nancy Draney   [ updated Dec 10, 2017, 6:05 PM ]

It was a busy week with two half days and finishing with a school liturgy to celebrate the Immaculate Conception.  We were all so proud of the students who achieved honors some of whom were our brothers, sisters and cousins.

We wrote about what we do if we were an elf!  Of course, there is a great mystery surrounding our class elf.  The only explanation is that he is mixed up since I just moved to Corpus Christi School this year.  Who knows?? He may find his way to us yet!!!
We also wrote a "how to paragraph" to describe how we actually made "Grinch Kabobs" in our classroom using our sequencing words.

Finally, it was a pleasure to meet with so many parents this week and have the opportunity to update everyone about how well our students are doing so far.

Turkey Trot Spelling Bee

posted Nov 21, 2017, 6:56 PM by Nancy Draney

We had our 1st Spelling Bee in class today.  We spelled all our spelling words to date as well as some words from the National Script 3rd Grade list.  It was pretty exciting and a good learning experience for everyone.  They can't wait to do it again!

All Saints Procession

Wow! What an amazing job the 3rd grade did for our All Saints Procession!  We are so proud of them all. This will forever be a fond memory for the students and families of what Corpus Christi School is all about.   Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who helped and supported the students in preparing for this event.

Pumpkin Chuckin Stem Challenge

What a great learning process as those who accepted the challenge explained and demonstrated how they made their catapults.  It was so fun to see how the different designs worked and which worked better.  We put our minds together to make predictions and modifications to help each other out.  Some pumpkins were launched close to 30 feet using a "true" catapult design. Thank you to any parents who helped with the designing process.  I hope you had fun too!

Pumpkin Stories

posted Oct 30, 2017, 1:54 PM by Nancy Draney

3rd grade had a great time reading their pumpkin stories to the Kindergarten classes.  We have been working hard on our pumpkin stories working as author and illustrator.

Tomorrow, a few of our students will be reading their "Spooky Stories" in the lunchroom.

Fire Safety

posted Oct 17, 2017, 4:46 PM by Nancy Draney

Our school received a visit from Chief Sulick today with the firetruck to remind us how important it is to stay safe when it comes to fire!  We had an up close look at the firetruck and all its hidden compartments. Thank you, Mr. Sulick!
